A 20-year-old man wanted over a murder at Keith in South Australia has been extradited from Victoria to face court in Adelaide.

Jordan Lee Campbell appeared in the Mildura Magistrates Court on Friday after being arrested at nearby Robinvale earlier this week.

He was wanted over the murder of Navarone Hutchins, 23, who was found dead on a dirt road five kilometres from Keith, southeast of Adelaide, on Tuesday.

Mr Hutchins had been missing from his Keith home since Friday last week and police said he had suffered serious head injuries.

He was last seen leaving a property in Keith to head to the local hotel.

Detective Inspector Mark Trenwith said Mr Hutchins was a popular local man with no criminal history.

Campbell, also from Keith, was remanded into the custody of South Australian detectives to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Insp Trenwith later said a post-mortem examination had revealed Mr Hutchins died from multiple injuries inflicted with a large, sharp-edged instrument.

The murder weapon had not been recovered.

He said detectives were also looking for items belonging to the victim including his mobile phone, a pair of Adidas shoes and a gold chain.

Campbell's home had been searched with police seizing items for forensic testing.
