Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange at the close of trade on Thursday:

ALZ - AUSTRALAND - up three cents, or 0.87 per cent, at $3.47

Capitaland, who holds a 59.3 per cent stake in Australand, is reviewing its investment in the company.

MAH - MACMAHON HOLDINGS - up 0.5 cents or 1.8 per cent to 28 cents.

India-owned Sembawang Australia has stepped up its efforts to buy the construction business operated by MacMahon Holdings, offering $5 million more than a current takeover agreement.

NWS - NEWS CORP - up 25 cents, or one per cent, at $25.73

Industry fund First Super will be selling its News Corp shares after a global push to end Rupert Murdoch's dual role as chairman and chief executive failed.

TOL - TOLL HOLDINGS LTD - steady at $4.87

Truck drivers working for Australian transport giant Toll Holdings in Los Angeles are celebrating what they see as a contract victory that will have an impact at ports across the US.
