Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Thursday:

AWC - ALUMINA - up 4.5 cents or 4.6 per cent to $1.03

Shares in Australian company Alumina have shot up after aluminium giant and joint venture partner Alcoa beat expectations in its quarterly earnings.

PSH - PENRICE - up 0.5 cents or 5.43 per cent to 9.7 cents

The directors of soda ash producer Penrice Soda Holdings are urging shareholders to back them as they face losing their positions in a spill vote at the end of January.

WHC - WHITEHAVEN COAL - up one cent or 0.29 per cent at $3.50

The activist at the heart of the Whitehaven Coal hoax could face a hefty fine or jail time if the corporate watchdog takes him to court.
