POLICE IN LONGMONT, COLORADO SAY A COUPLE OF EMERGENCY WORKERS HAD THEIR AMBULANCE STOLEN WHILE RESPONDING TO AN ELDERLY WOMAN'S CALL FOR HELP.

THEY CAME TO THIS HOUSE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING TO CHECK ON 86-YEAR-OLD ROSEMARY WINTER WHO HAD FALLEN.

THE MEDICAL TEAM HAD BEEN INSIDE FOR A FEW MINUTES WHEN THEY HEARD A BEEPING SOUND.

SOUNDBITE: Rosemary Winter/Called For Ambulance: "They was hollering of course talking to each other about it -- saying someone took the ambulance."

WINTER SAYS SHE'S GLAD THAT SHE DIDN'T NEED HELP FOR A MORE SERIOUS MEDICAL ISSUE.

SOUNDBITE: Rosemary Winter/Called For Ambulance: "I used to deliver babies. There could be a woman in here having problems and the baby is having problems."

POLICE FOLLOWED THE AMBULANCE ON THIS STREET FOR ALMOST A MILE BEFORE THE DRIVER FINALLY PULLED OVER.

HE TOLD THE OFFICERS THAT HE WAS COLD.

SOUNDBITE: Rosemary Winter/Called For Ambulance: "Whoever did it, I don't think they're rational or they wouldn't do something like that."

SOUNDBITE: Sgt. James Sawinska/Longmont Police: I don't know what he was thinking, but I believe his level of intoxication played a tremendous role."

51-YEAR-OLD ROBERT TAYLOR HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH STEALING THE AMBULANCE AND DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL..
