Alice Springs might be in the grip of a heatwave, but four people have been arrested over the theft of Collingwood AFL jumpers.

Police allege six girls and a woman broke into a budget clothing store overnight and made off with the clothing.

Officers say three teenagers and the woman have been caught, but they are still searching for the three other girls.

Cold weather in Alice Springs usually reduces the town's crime rate, but police say scorching temperatures are not having the same effect, and may even be increasing some people's desire for illicit alcohol.

The town's golf club has been robbed repeatedly for alcohol in recent days, and an Italian restaurant had its supplies raided twice last night.

The town is due to swelter again today, with a forecast top of 43 degrees Celsius.
