Northern Territory Treasurer Robyn Lambley has weighed into the dole debate, saying she too could live on about $35 a day.
As of January 1, the Federal Government is moving unemployed single parents whose child turns eight years old on to the dole, which pays about $35 a day.
Ms Lambley says she could live on that.
"I probably used to live on less," she said.
She praised federal Families Minister Jenny Macklin, who has been drawing criticism for saying she could live on $35 dollars a day for a week.
"Good on her," Ms Lambley said.
Social welfare organisations say the payment is too low, and will push more families further below the poverty line.
