Indonesian police say it is unlikely an Australian woman found dead in a Bali swimming pool was murdered, but police will still investigate the cause of her death.

Denni North, 33, from Queensland, was found unconscious in the swimming pool of a villa she shared with three other women on Sunday.

Sources have told the ABC that Ms North had worked late at Bali's Cocoon Beach Club and then had drinks with friends.

After talking by their swimming pool, her friends went to bed around 3:30am (local time).

A few hours later Ms North was found unconscious in the pool and was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say there is no evidence of criminal activity and Dr Dudut Rustyadi from Sanglah Hospital said the woman most likely drowned.

The hospital is waiting for permission from Ms North's family to perform an autopsy.
