Police say there were no suspicious circumstances in the death of a woman who fell from a boat on Sydney Harbour in the early hours of New Year's Eve.

Leanne Maurer, 49, from Sydney's northern suburbs, had been drinking when she accidentally fell into the water at Rose Bay.

Mrs Maurer had been celebrating with her husband and two of her children on the deck of their 40-foot cruiser.

She remained on deck after her husband and children went to bed about midnight.

Mr Maurer raised the alarm two hours later when he woke up and could not find his wife.

Mrs Maurer's body was found near a jetty shortly after daybreak following a police marine rescue and helicopter search.

The family had moored their boat in the area to get a good spot to watch the New Year's fireworks.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
