A man charged with the murder of his wife at Gladstone in the South Australia's Mid North will remain in custody for at least a week.

Daniel Dunn, 83, had his bail application adjourned this afternoon in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court, pending a bail report.

Dunn was arrested early on Saturday morning after he called police to a Gladstone property where they found the body of his 86-year-old wife.

He will reappear in court next Monday.
