Trains halted after level crossing collision

Melbourne's train operator Metro hopes to clear the scene of a crash in Melbourne's outer-east before New Year's revellers start heading to the city.

A car and train collided at a level crossing near the Ferntree Gully station.

An ambulance spokeswoman says the 41-year-old male driver of the car sustained scratches to his face.

Buses are replacing trains between Upper Ferntree Gully and Bayswater until the site is cleared.

A Metro spokesman says he does not believe it will disrupt services tonight.
