A 10-year-old boy with a broken arm walked to get help after he and his mother were injured in a vehicle rollover on Queensland's Central Highlands.

The 42-year-old woman and the boy were thrown from an all-terrain vehicle when it rolled in the Humboldt Road area near Blackwater, west of Rockhampton.

The woman was trapped under the machine.

Her son managed to walk a long distance to a station to raise the alarm, despite having a broken arm.

Capricorn Helicopter Rescue says the woman has undergone surgery in the Rockhampton hospital, while the boy was treated in Emerald.
