A woman who was trapped in a central Queensland drop-toilet for several hours is recovering in hospital.

The 65-year-old Gladstone woman was climbing down a ladder from a boat on a trailer yesterday afternoon, when she fell into the drop-toilet on a Wartburg property, north of Bundaberg.

Her husband found her with a serious leg fracture.

Authorities say it was difficult to get her out of the hole, with the ambulance, fire services and a helicopter crew helping to retrieve her.

She was treated on the property and flown to a Bundaberg hospital where she is in a stable condition.
