A man has been charged over a stabbing outside a restaurant at Strathfield in Sydney's inner-west earlier this week.

The 29-year-old victim remains in intensive care after he was stabbed in the chest and stomach during an argument shortly before midnight on Christmas eve.

Detectives say they arrested a 33-year-old man at a Strathfield coffee shop last night after receiving a tip-off.

He has been charged with wounding with intent to murder and is being held in custody to face court later today.
