A Christmas Day brawl in Devonport in which a man died has left neighbours shocked and upset.
Police have charged Adrian Smillie, 33, with murder and attempted murder.
It is alleged he got into a fight with his former neighbours in front of their unit on Croft Avenue.
Benjamin Maxwell, 30, was killed and a 21-year-old man was injured.
A friend of the victims says he is still in shock.
"Losing a mate on Christmas Day...still getting emotional about it."
A man living next door says police responded quickly.
"We were just sitting inside enjoying our new Christmas presents...and heard screams," he said.
"Couple of car loads of people... and then there was just two guys left.
"They got up and staggered away..within minutes police, ambulance were there taking them off to hospital."
Smillie has been remanded in custody to appear in court again on Friday.
He is yet to enter a plea.
