Union sparks court stoush over mine payouts

The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) has lodged a statement of claim against Rio Tinto over concerns about redundancy payouts for workers at a central Queensland mine.

The Blair Athol mine at Clermont, south-west of Mackay, was closed down last month after 30 years of operation.

The CFMEU says its members received less in payouts than colleagues on individual or workplace agreements.

A CFMEU spokesman says the matter has been listed for mention in the Federal Court in February.
