A Kaleen man has been refused bail while ACT police investigate his involvement in a shooting at Curtin over the weekend.

Police allege that Hamish Antero Mckee, 20, took a revolver and a friend to pay a visit to a drug dealer in Canberra's south on Sunday night.

During the incident a bullet was fired at the front door of the dealer's unit, but ricocheted off and nobody was injured.

Yesterday a search warrant uncovered a gun and and some ammunition in Mckee's home.

But in court today police confessed that while they planned to charge Mckee over the firearm incident, they needed more time to gather evidence to better link him to the crime.

Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker said it put the court in a difficult position but agreed to keep Mckee in custody until those investigations are finalised.
