A hearing to determine if serial sex offender Robert Fardon should remain behind bars has begun in the Court of Appeal in Brisbane.
Fardon was given an indefinite sentence in 2003 for sex crimes against women and girls dating back decades.
But during a periodic review last month a judge ordered he be released under strict supervision.
Fardon was freed last Friday but within hours Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie sought an urgent appeal that saw the sex offender returned to prison.
The 64-year-old was taken to hospital on Sunday for a medical assessment but has since returned to jail.
Today's hearing seeks to keep him there until the formal appeal against his release is decided.
