Queenslanders could soon be able to tweet for help in emergencies.
Police Commissioner Ian Stewart is looking at ways to utilise social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to report crimes and urgent situations.
Mr Stewart says that's still some way off and for now people should still call triple zero for urgent help.
"We can't afford to miss one of those messages but we are currently working with researchers on how we can allow people to do that so we are alerted straight away," he told The Courier-Mail.
"At the moment the internet is not our preferred method of the public coming to us for urgent reasons but in the future I think it will be."
