The Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has arrived at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Bali where he's due to meet other world leaders.

Mr Abbott landed at the Ngurah Rai international Airport on Sunday night and travelled directly to the summit venue in the Nusa Dua region of Bali where he was greeted by traditional Balinese dancers.

He's expected to attend a packed schedule of meetings with other leaders, including the President of China Xi Jinping.

It's understand Mr Abbott will meet the Secretary of State John Kerry after a decision by the US President Barack Obama not to attend the conference because of domestic issues.

As well as other sideline discussions, there's a gala dinner planned for Monday night before the official leader's meeting on Tuesday.
