Dubbo Police say they gave a teenager plenty of opportunities to calm down before tasering him.

Officers say they were called to Illoura Street just before 3 o'clock on Saturday morning to find a highly agitated 17 year old who appeared to be covered in blood, in the street.

It's believed he'd been fighting with his mother and was highly intoxicated.

The boy approached two police officers in their car and banged his hands on the bonnet before he was tasered and arrested.

He's been charged with two counts of deliberately destroying property and will appear in the Children's Court next month.
