Cattle producers in South Australia will have an industry levy almost doubled in the coming days.
The South Australian Cattle Industry Fund, which is used to work on market access and prepare for potential disease outbreaks, is being raised from 65 cents to $1.10 per animal.
Andy Withers from the SA Cattle Advisory Group says without the jump, they'd run out of money.
You know our fund has been drawing down over a period of five to six years, slowly drawing down and it's got to a level where it can't continue to draw down, because we've basically only got one and a bit years operating money left in the fund. We can't continue to go like that, we had to raise the levy.
