Former Australian swimming coach Laurie Lawrence is stepping up his campaign to prevent drownings with research showing two-thirds of pool owners don't know CPR.

Statistics released this week also show a further 43 per cent don't have an up-do-date CPR chart displayed in their pool area.

Mr Lawrence is teaming up with a pool franchise in an effort to drive home his Kids Alive - Do the Five pool safety message ahead of what's tipped to be a scorching summer.

It's estimated 41.5 per cent of drownings involving children aged five and under occur in swimming pools.
