The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's chief executive Peter Anderson is stepping down after 12 with years with the organisation.
Mr Anderson has led ACCI and served as its main spokesperson for the past six years.
He will continue to serve as a special advisor for up to six months after leaving the organisation on January 10.
"I have not sought an alternate role in the public or private sector, nor had one offered," he said in a statement.
"I have no current plans other than to complete my service on a high note and then ride my bicycle from north to south Thailand for charity in the month after my departure."
ACCI President Richard Holyman thanked Mr Anderson for his service.
"Peter's dedication to all areas of ACCI's work is reflected in the high level of respect shown by all sides of parliament, the media and the broader community of industry and its organisations," he said.
ACCI's board plans to conduct a "full recruitment process" to find a replacement chief executive.
