A Victorian team has won the national pedal prix championship by the narrowest margin in the event's history.

A record 226 vehicles took to the track at Sturt Reserve at Murray Bridge in South Australia for the 24-hour endurance race.

Organiser Andrew McLachlan said Victorian team Aurora Racing finished the pedal prix series just one kilometre ahead of second-placed Trump Trikes.

"With about 10-15 minutes to go, the guys who were in second place in the series were fast catching up with the guys who were leading so it was only a matter of half a lap or so difference at the end of the race, which is a pretty amazing result over the whole year," he said.

The racing at Murray Bridge was the third and final round of the Human-Powered Vehicle Super Series.
