The Western Suburbs Rosellas have take out this year's Newcastle Rugby League grand final with a 13 point win over Kurri Kurri.
Kurri were the first to score but Wests fought back to lead 10-8 at halftime and went on to win the match 21-8.
Western Suburbs coach Craig Miller says defence won his team the game.
"Everything they did we expected, the cross field kicks and everything and I though here we go again they've got momentum, but the boys hung in there tough and got through their sets," he said.
"We only made a couple of errors in the first half and got those two tries and I just felt at half time if we just kept grinding and kept executing because really wanted to back our defence.
"They only scored one try today and I think our defence won it for us."
