SINGAPORE (AP) — Sebastian Vettel has laughed off the continuation of booing during his repeated podium appearances, putting it down to jealousy and over-emotional Ferrari fans.

The Red Bull driver's sustained dominance, combined with his less-than-sporting showing toward teammate Mark Webber early this season, has seen the German become a target for frustrated fans. He was met with a chorus of boos during his appearance on the top step of the Singapore podium on Sunday.

The podium interviews had to be interrupted as interviewer Martin Brundle admonished fans for their attitude: "People, don't do that, that's not correct."

Vettel received a similarly hostile reception in the previous race in Italy, but that is not unusual for non-Ferrari winners at Monza. However, the boos carried over to Singapore, prompting Vettel to quip: "They're on a tour, they go around on a bus."

Vettel said later: "If some of them boo, I take is as a compliment. They're jealous, because we are winning in front of whoever they are supporting.

"They are quite emotional when they are not winning. On days like these, I really don't mind."

The booing partly stems from the remarkable dominance Vettel has displayed over the past two seasons, adding to the two prior years when he just edged Alonso to the title.

There has also been ill-will toward Vettel since this year's Malaysian Grand Prix when he ignored team orders and overtook teammate Mark Webber, and then compounded that by saying he would do it all again.
