South Launceston has ended its time in the state wide league on a high, winning the grand final by nine points over Burnie at York Park yesterday.

The Bulldogs came in to the game as favourites, having beaten Burnie twice this year.

Before the game, playing coach Mitch Thorp was awarded the Tassie Medal as the competition's premier player.

In the first half, South Launceston dominated around the ground, but failed to capitalise, leading by less than a goal at half time.

In the second half the Bulldogs threatened to run away with the game, before Burnie captain Luke Shackleton inspired a comeback to trail by just 12 points at three quarter time.

It was not enough for the Dockers, with South Launceston holding on to record a famous nine point victory.

It was the Bulldogs' last game in the state wide league due to financial difficulties.

Next year they will play in a lower division.
