Veteran American Jim Furyk has become just the sixth golfer in US PGA Tour history to shoot a 59, tearing apart Conway Farms Golf Club in the second round of the third playoff event in Illinois.

Furyk carded a 12-under round with 11 birdies, an eagle and just one bogey to storm into a tie for the lead of the BMW Championship at 11-under with reigning FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker.

Jason Day is the best of the Australians in a tie for 10th at five-under par, six shots off the pace.
