The Australian Principals Federation is calling for cameras to be installed in all Victorian state school foyers to help curb abuse and violence towards staff.
The association says the number of violent incidents being reported has increased in recent years.
The president of the association, Chris Cotching, says some schools have already installed cameras.
He says the violence is concerning, not only for staff, but for young students who witness the behaviour.
"We're getting a growing number of people, a small number but a growing number of people, who are quite disrespectful, quite rude in their behaviour," he said.
"It's quite confronting by community standards how they conduct themselves around children and other adults in schools."
