Folk rock singer Billy Bragg will perform on the closing night of next year's Womadelaide festival.

It will be the first time the English artist has been at Adelaide's festival of world music and dance in Bonython Park.

Womadelaide director Ian Scobie said he was thrilled to have lured such a music legend for the event.

"Bragg's performances are as much about thoughtful songs as his compelling and often hilarious storytelling in between, so I'm sure he will go down a treat with our audience," he said.

Bragg also will do a national tour of Australia.

More of the Womadelaide line-up is to be revealed on October 21.
