Labor's Sid Sidebottom has conceded defeat in his north-west seat of Braddon, saying the electorate clearly wanted change.

Mr Sidebottom has lost to Liberal candidate Brett Whitely after an 11 per cent swing against him.

It is the second time he has lost the seat; Mr Sidebottom was re-elected in 2007 after being ousted in 2004.

He says he is disappointed with the loss, but the electorate clearly wanted a change.

"We've got some fantastic commitments for here, so it will be disappointing that we won't be able to deliver on this," he said.

"I congratulate Brett. I congratulate all of the candidates on the campaign and people get what they vote for and they wanted a change and that's what will happen."

Mr Sidebottom says his future is not clear but he wants to tread the boards once again.

"I've never had a break, all I can tell you is I'm going to do a lot more theatre and I'm really looking forward to it."

"So watch this space, some premier musicals for Tasmania coming up."
