High profile criminal Mark 'Chopper' Read is taking legal action against two Melbourne journalists.

Chopper Read alleges he has never been given a full account of book and film sales, more than a decade after signing an agreement with The Age's John Silvester and the Herald Sun's Andrew Rule.

He has taken action in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) claiming he Is owed money from book sales in Britain and DVD revenue from the Chopper film.

Mr Rule says it is a minor accounting issue and he hopes to resolve the matter.

Read's wife, Margaret Cassar, says her husband has been treated unfairly.

"He's the man who is self-employed. No-one gave him a job. He reshaped his life and he should not have been deprived of the chance and the change that he has made," she said.
