The presence of a nine Group One winners in the Makybe Diva Stakes hasn't stopped boom galloper Puissance De Lune being made an odds-on favourite to win the weight-for-age race.

The Darren Weir-trained Puissance De Lune will have his first start at racing's elite level in Saturday's 1600m feature at Flemington and went up at $1.90 when the first market was released on Wednesday.

Weir is pleased with the condition of Puissance De Lune and is looking forward to the import stepping out again at Flemington, but was surprised when told the horse had been posted in the red.

"That's a worry. There's nine Group One winners in there," he said.

A field of 15 was declared on Wednesday but Chris Waller will keep Doomben Cup winner Beaten Up in Sydney to run in the Chelmsford Stakes.

Weir said it would be "great for the horse" if Puissance De Lune could win in his first try at Group One level.

"It's a really good race. It's certainly not an easy race," Weir said.

Puissance De Lune made a winning return to racing last month with a last-to-first victory in the Group Two P B Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

The six-year-old, who is equal second favourite for the Cox Plate and favourite for the Melbourne Cup, had a 1000m trial at Ballarat last Saturday to keep him ticking over for the Makybe Diva which looms as his biggest test yet.

"He goes well second-up and he likes Flemington as long as the track is not too firm," Weir said.

"His goal is still seven weeks away so there's going to be a lot of improvement in him."

Last year's runner-up Manighar is on the second line of betting at $7.50 with TAB fixed odds along with last year's Hardwicke Stakes winner Sea Moon who makes his Australian debut in the race.

Sea Moon is one of three Lloyd Williams-owned runners in the Makybe Diva along with Sydney Cup winner Mourayan and 2011 English St Leger winner Masked Marvel who will also make his Australian debut.

The Makybe Diva Stakes is being run at Group One level for the first time.
