Tasmania Police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide at a house in northern Launceston.
Police were called to the house on Orana Place at Riverside North about 5pm last night after neighbours reported a disturbance.
Officers arrived to find the bodies of a man and woman in their 60s.
Acting Sergeant Chris Cheeseman cannot say whether police have found a weapon yet.
He says it is not thought the couple had had previous dealings with police.
"We've been conducting an investigation overnight," he said.
"We've had CIB on site and forensics on site, and post-mortems will be conducted this morning.
"The coroner has already been notified, post mortems will be conducted.
"As a result of that, that will probably provide us with another avenue of inquiry.
"Police will continue doing those investigations today."
