No further trace has been found of missing South Australian kayaker William McCallum despite the search area in southern Tasmania being widened.
Police, SES and volunteers including members of Mr McCallum's family have searched an extended area after examining drift patterns around Port Esperance, 80km south of Hobart.
A helicopter and three police boats wound up their operations on Tuesday afternoon and police said the search would resume on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old went missing on Sunday evening after leaving the jetty at Dover to take photos.
His kayak, backpack and boots were found on Sunday night.
The chances of survival in water of around 10 degrees were remote, Acting Inspector Marcus Pearce told ABC radio.
"So we're looking for the recovery of a body in the event that he's been in the water for the duration," he said.
He said police divers would be considered when the search resumed.
