A Mount Gambier man who accidentally shot himself has been charged with firearms and drug offences.

Police and paramedics were called to a Mount Gambier home earlier this month after Adam Scott Uphill, 23, accidentally shot himself in the neck.

Police allege they found a hydroponic cannabis crop with 52 plants, a replica pistol, a crossbow and other weapons while Uphill was being treated by paramedics.

Uphill appeared before the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court charged with a number of offences, including possessing a firearm without a licence, handling a firearm while intoxicated and cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis.

The prosecution opposed an application for home detention bail, saying police had not been able to find Uphill prior to the incident, despite a warrant for his arrest.

Magistrate Jack Fahey ordered a bail report and remanded Uphill until next week.
