Deputy Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says being a guest on ABC's Rage music program is the most fun he's had during an election campaign.

Mr Albanese will appear on the late-night music video show as a guest programmer in an "election special" on August 31.

He recorded his host comments at the ABC studios in Sydney on Friday.

The communications minister said on Twitter: "Most fun I've had in an election."

Mr Albanese is a frequent concert-goer and in 2011 won the gratitude of singer Dolly Parton for overruling a Customs decision to ban her tour buses because they were oversized.
