Bogan comedy and dating dilemmas have proven a hit for the ABC, with its two new shows landing in the Top 10 TV chart.

Upper Middle Bogan, starring Glenn Robbins and Michala Banas, and It's A Date, about awkward dating scenarios, both launched on Thursday night.

Upper Middle Bogan drew 927,000 viewers to be sixth for the evening and It's A Date, which is written by and stars Peter Helliar, pulled 877,000 to be ninth, according to OzTAM's ratings.

The two shows are among a number of drama and comedy series the ABC has pumped out over the past couple of years which have resonated with viewers.

One of the more recent hits is the Sunday night series The Time Of Our Lives, starring Claudia Karvan, which pulls solid numbers despite stiff competition from the commercial networks.

The top four shows on Thursday in the ratings were news and a current affairs shows, with Nine News (1.164 million) sitting at the top of the chart.

The Seven Network special Dynamo: Magician Impossible did well to rank seventh with 920,000 viewers.
