Drama series Winners & Losers has picked up in the ratings, topping a million viewers after the third season started with questionable figures.

The Seven Network drama has picked up more than 200,000 viewers since it returned with a mediocre audience of 798,000 on July 9.

Tuesday night's sixth episode pulled 1.065 million viewers to be the fifth most-watched show for the evening - its highest finish on the ratings table this year.

Airing immediately after the popular The X Factor certainly helped.

Once again The X Factor claimed the No.1 spot, with the Seven talent show attracting 1.554 million viewers to beat Nine News (1.297 million) and Seven News (1.238 million), according to OzTAM's overnight ratings.

The Nine Network's reality show Big Brother is holding its own in the Top 10 even if it's not pulling massive numbers.

Big Brother was ninth with an audience of 895,000 and Network Ten's imported sci-fi drama Under The Dome was 10th with 846,000 fans tuning in.

On the breakfast front, Seven's decision to replace long-time Sunrise co-host Melissa Doyle with Samantha Armytage has done the show no harm.

Armytage started full-time in the chair on Monday and Sunrise has beaten its main rival Nine's Today in the two subsequent surveys.

On Tuesday Sunrise pulled 407,000, a considerably high figure for a breakfast show, to easily beat its main rival Nine's Today show, which drew 345,000 viewers.
