Media travelling on the Prime Minister's campaign have been stranded at Sydney airport inside one of the Air Forces' C-17 Globemasters after the jet lost power.
The travelling team had been due to attend an event in a New South Wales seat until the ABC's Chris Uhlmann reported the shock political comeback of former Queensland premier Peter Beattie.
Mr Beattie will run for the LNP held seat of Forde on Brisbane's southside, despite a litany of comments previously bagging Kevin Rudd and the Prime Minister's own political resurrection.
In 2011 a Rudd return to the prime ministership would be "akin to Napoleon's 100 glory days after his return from exile", but the return would be "short-lived" like Napoleon.
Mr Rudd, who is not travelling on the Globemaster, is due to address the media in Beenleigh this afternoon with the former premier.
It is not clear whether the 40 or so journalists and newsmakers will make it to Queensland in time.
His campaign is expected to move to Melbourne later today.
