RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — A traditional international horse show that was to serve as a test event for the Rio Olympics has been canceled because of a lack of infrastructure at the venue which will host the equestrian competitions during the 2016 Games.

Organizers of the annual Athina Onassis Horse Show said in a statement Friday that the decision was made because it wasn't clear if the infrastructure work needed at the venue would be finalized in time for the Oct. 25-27 event, which would have nearly 100 participants and would be broadcast live to more than 80 countries.

Organizers said the local government and private companies were responsible for the work.

The event was to "serve as an operational and logistical test" for the Olympic venue in Deodoro, home to one of the Olympic clusters in 2016.
