The Newcastle Jets have signed Socceroo striker Nathan Burns on a loan deal from his South Korean club Incheon United for the first three months of the next A-League season.

The 25-year-old will start with the Jets after the Korea league winds up on September 1, ahead of the A-League start on October 11, and will stay until January 11 before returning to Incheon United.

Capped seven times for Australia, Burns is with the Socceroos at the East Asia Cup in Seoul.

He said he relished the chance to return to the A-League, where he starred for Adelaide United in the first two seasons of the competition before joining Greek giants AEK Athens in 2008 for four years.

"I really want to get back playing and get back into a good team environment and I think Newcastle has that," said Burns.

"They have some fantastic experience and very good young players so I look forward to fitting in with them and helping the team win.

"The club showed a lot of interest in me from the start and, when you get that commitment and that level of interest, it kind of inspires you to go there."
