A 10-year-old Fijian boy has been found guilty of the manslaughter of a six-year-old New Zealand boy after shooting him at a building site near Fiji's second largest city.

Six-year-old Mohammed Khubeb Khan, from Auckland, was killed after being shot at a building site near Lautoka in January.

The 10-year-old had been playing with other children when he picked up the gun - which had been used for shooting pigeons - and fired it, hitting Mohammed and another child.

Lautoka High Court's Justice Janaka Bandara has ordered the 10-year-old be rehabilitated, the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation reports.

The boy's father has been ordered to pay a bond of $NZ3360 ($A2896) to ensure his son's good behaviour for the next seven years.
