CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — West Indies was beaten by 23 runs by a Prime Minister's XI captained by Ricky Ponting in a 50-over match which opened its cricket tour to Australia on Tuesday.

Alex Doolan made 87, Usman Khawaja 69 and Jono Dean 51 for the Prime Minister's XI which scored at a rapid rate on a placid pitch at Manuka Oval.

Powell made 92 before retiring hurt, Sarwan 63 and Russell 54 from 24 balls before West Indies was all out to the last ball of the 49th over.
