RECIFE, Brazil (AP) — Abel Hernandez scored three goals, the first of which was the quickest in Confederations Cup history, to help give Uruguay a 4-0 lead over fan-favorite Tahiti at halftime Sunday in Group B.
Hernandez's first goal, a header which came 1 minute, 19 seconds into the match at the Arena Pernambuco, is the fastest to be scored in the history of the World Cup warm-up tournament, according to FIFA.
Hernandez scored a second goal in the 24th, and Diego Perez tapped in the third after his header had hit the post in the 27th. Hernandez made it 4-0 in injury time.
Tahiti, which again drew loud support from the local Brazilian fans, has been outscored 20-1 at the tournament so far but did have a few chances to score.
