IRAN'S NEWLY-ELECTED PRESIDENT GAVE HIS FIRST TELEVISED SPEECH SATURDAY.

AND CALLED ON THE IRANIAN PEOPLE TO PRESERVE NATIONAL PRIDE AND INTERESTS.

HASAN ROWHANI ALSO SAID THE COUNTRY'S DIRE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS CANNOT BE SOLVED "OVERNIGHT,"

THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH HAS TRADITIONALLY TAKEN THE LEAD IN HANDLING THE ECONOMY. BUT NUCLEAR EFFORTS, DEFENSE AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS REMAIN PRIMARILY IN THE HANDS OF THE RULING CLERICS AND THE REVOLUTIONARY GUARD.
