1. SOUNDBITE: (English): Janine Gibson, editor-in-chief Guardian United States: Partially covered by still image of Snowden and exteriors of NSA Headquarters.

"Well I think the unusual thing about this whistle blower, Edward Snowden, is that from the start he knew that it was going to be impossible to remain anonymous, that his identity would be revealed. He has such knowledge and experience of the way the NSA works. He was under no illusion that his identity would not remain secret. He obviously is very fearful and has spent a very uncomfortable time holed up in a hotel in Hong Kong with glasses of water behind the door and, terrible, rightly about what might happen to him. And he faces a very difficult situation now. He's expressed that he would like, perhaps, to be given asylum in somewhere like Iceland which has an excellent track record on freedom of information. And perhaps that will come out for him."
