A man has died at a northern Sydney beach after being pulled from the water by swimmers.

Police and ambulance were called to Mona Vale beach shortly after 2:30pm (AEST) on Monday after reports a man was floating face down in the water.

Two swimmers went to the man's aid and pulled him to shore.

Paramedics were unable to revive the man and he died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
