A 35-year-old man is recovering in a Pilbara hospital after he dived into shallow waters in the remote Karijini national park.

State Emergency Service volunteers rescued the man who was injured after diving at Circular Pool in Dales Gorge yesterday afternoon.

He was taken by ambulance to Tom Price and later flown to the Hedland health campus.

Acting Sergeant Brock Lucith says the man's injuries could have been much worse.

"The water was shallow and as a result he hit his head," he said.

"But, I'm happy to say we received an update on his injuries and he's only received fractured ribs and severe bruising which is a very good result."
