A five-year-old boy is showing more signs of improvement after being seriously injured at a fete on southern Queensland's Darling Downs.

Patrick O'Sullivan was flung off a fast spinning ride at a school fete near Toowoomba on Sunday.

He suffered serious head injuries and was placed on life support in the Mater Children's Hospital in Brisbane.

The turning point came on Monday when he started breathing on his own.

On Wednesday, he emerged from a deep coma and was trying to talk to his parents.

Late yesterday, Patrick's father Barry O'Sullivan Jnr confirmed he had shown more signs of improvement and was being prepared to move out of the intensive care into a recovery ward.

He has thanked everyone for their prayers and support.
